It’s lovely to meet you, I’m Cindy - a modern calligrapher in Surrey, BC offering services all through Metro Vancouver and the lower mainland. Meaningful communication is one of the most important things that we do as humans. We leave our stories on everything we touch and we share ourselves in every word we say.
Giving words meaning and turning them into something beautiful and sentimental isn't what I do. You do that. I have the privilege of taking those thoughtful words and turning them into lasting memories. I bring them to life, putting them on paper, so everything you feel and say can be seen for all that it is. Pretty Itsy Bitsy is about capturing the story you tell and making it last for years to come.
We can work together to add warmth, depth and personalization to your corporate, brand or private events, activations and of course, where this all began, with weddings. Whether you’re looking for the perfect welcome for your guests, or a meaningful gift for your loved ones, we can make it happen together.
I started as a calligraphy artist because I appreciated the artform and the elegance, but I continue to love it because it allows me to connect with and help people like me to bring their visions to life. Working with your decor and planning teams is exciting, as we take all the little details you’ve been dreaming of and put it all together in one beautiful event.
Being able to support hardworking females who share the same affinity for development, connection and community is what continues to drive my passion.
Let’s Start at the Beginning
Growing up, my parents were immigrants to Canada and they couldn’t speak English very well. Because of this, I took learning to read and write seriously, as I knew how important it would be for us here. I relied on being able to communicate and express myself best through writing, as many others do. I would trace letters in books and catalogs, perfecting and practicing the shapes and the movement of the words across the page.
As I grew up, my love for stationery, clean lines and beautiful things evolved with planners and journaling. That’s when I found Modern Calligraphy. I wanted to use it personally to make my planner headings more decorative and aesthetic. It was different than what I thought I knew calligraphy to be, the broad-edge, gothic lines, it was soft and delicate and it felt like I was able to fall in love with writing all over again. It was like if you could watch your favourite movie or read your favourite book again without knowing the plot - that rush and instant passion.
Just like I did when I was in grade school, I traced my lines and spent endless hours practicing and perfecting each stroke. Calligraphy has allowed me to meet so many amazing people. It has given me the gift of sharing the most beautiful stories and moments that I truly cherish.
The Everyday
One of the things that will never get old is when you take something “everyday” and you turn it into something remarkable. I love working with you to make these simple things transport you back to that moment in time so you can enjoy and remember it for all the days to come.
